- : Most of the CPU resources did go into easier programming (including bloatware

- So what if you're not 100 times more productive!? You're not paying 100x
- more. Besides, who is to say that you're not being 100x more productive
- with a P100 than with an XT? There are plenty of things that you simply
- could not do on an XT that you can do on a P100. That makes the P100
- an infinitely more productive platform...

-
- Of course they don't run it on base Amigas! It's impossible!
- I personally know of a few people who own base 1200s and wanted to install
- NetBSD but couldn't because they didn't have an MMU. I own an EC030, and
- also miss out...

-
- Okay, how about ANY OS friendly program which is not time critical and
- requires memory? ie Word Processors/DTP programs, any program that does
- any type of rendering, and all of the image manipulation packages.
- Anybody who has never got an "Out of Memory" box thrown in their face
- obviously isn't much of an Amiga user, and IMO isn't in the place to
- tell other users what they do/do not need. (Unless of course they have
- an MMU :)

- : They could do this even faster if someone wrote a real display driver.
-
- Fine, if you or AT wants to include some "real display driver"s for
- Emplant and SS, then I'll drop that as part of the MMU argument. Of
- course there are still the many other reasons...

- : >: Well, I consider my A3000 (with 68030/25) "high end".

- :
- : Why ?
-
- Why do you think? Because an 030/25 is a slow, low-end piece of
- trash. I speak from experience... I'm using one right now...
-
- : >Do you see that you are too?
- :
- : I am in a small minority. Sure. I wouldn't buy an Amiga Walker myself either.
- : Doesn't mean that the majority couldn't live with it, especially when you
- : consider that everything better is more expensive. In fact, as expensive
- : as average Pentiums.
-
- Everything better is NOT more expensive... $1500 DM is the suggested
- price tag on the Walker -- a computer which won't hit the shelves until
- late summer/early fall. Can somebody tell me exactly how much $1500 DM
- is in US or Canadian money? Somewhere around $1000 US, right? I could
- buy a P60 for that today, and by the fall I could do even better...
-
- : >I consider you a myth, now are you going to go away? No, I didn't think so.
- :
- : That's no answer.
-
- Thank you for not quoting the "question" which in fact wasn't even a question.
- That's bordering on a misquote...
-
- You claimed that you consider the fact that 1200 users would like to be
- able to run SS to be a myth. My point was that just because you're
- too ignorant to see the truth, doesn't make the truth any less truthfull.
-
- : >Yikes Mike! Where are you looking at prices? It's hardly an extra $300
- : >to go from an EC030 to a full 030. $30 is probably pretty accurate.
- :
- : Not if you want to run at 40MHz (or 50MHz as most wheenies ask for).
-
- I don't know exact prices, but I don't think that even a full 040 or
- 060 would cost $300. Let alone a f#?king MMU for an 030... You might
- want to consider going out and getting yourself a clue...
